It's that time of year again!  Strathroy's Downtown Dollars go on sale today at the Royal Bank beginning at 10:00 am.
There will be cake, prizes and a live remote by myFM Radio (co-sponsored by Doug and Marion’s Bike Shop).
Pay $8.50 and get $10.00 to use at a participating BIA Merchant ($250.00 maximum per person).
All merchants participating in the Downtown Dollars program will display a “We accept Downtown Dollars Here!” sign.
Many businesses are also holding additional sales this weekend to stretch your buying dollar even further.
It's a great weekend to take advantage of all of the great shopping in the Downtown.

Up The Street is offering 15% off all scrapbooking & Born in a Barn purchases this weekend (10% off antiques) ... even if you don't use the Downtown Dollars.  This discount is in addition to discounts found in the Sale Bin (50% off) and on the Sale Table (40% off) and Sale Rack (25% off).
If you haven't had time to get into the store in the last few weeks, you'll find that there has been a lot of new stock added.  New paper lines arrived yesterday from Bo Bunny and Teresa Collins.  The hockey paper has been restocked with a few new patterns.  Very cool animal print papers as well.
I'm still waiting on the Fudge and Chocolate Pizza, but am hoping to see it in the next few days.  Great stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, hostess gifts or as a little boost of energy to get you through all that will be coming at you over the next month ;)

New this year to the Downtown is the "Community Teddy Bear Hunt".
Grab a ballot at any of the participating businesses, find ten teddy bears (and their names) and enter your ballot (by December 13th) to win the Grand Prize containing contributions from all of the participating businesses.

From 6:00 until 8:00 pm (Thursday evening), Libro Financial and Sydenham Community Credit Union have graciously sponsored the horse wagon rides around the downtown.  Rides are free!  The pick up area is the Shopper’s Drug Mart parking lot.

Up The Street will be open
from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm tonight (Thursday),
noon until 8:00 pm tomorrow
and 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Hope to see you this weekend!

"Life is Good Together" Layout

This is probably my favorite of Sarah's layouts this month.  I'm not sure if it's because there is so much colour going on in this kit that a background of kraft with a lot of white space provides such a wonderful backdrop for a photo with a fresh feel?
One of the items you will find in both this kit ("A Colourful Life") and "On My Mind", is a package of Hemptique Hemp Cord.  The red is included in this side and is similar to regular twine, but with a touch more body.  Nothing life changing, but just a bit different :)
With a full package of die cuts from American Crafts Soho Garden and the Heidi Swapp Epoxy Buzz Words, you can create many quick and easy titles without ever having to use the alphabet set included in the kit.
Additional items not included in the kit ... accent stickers (American Crafts Soho Garden), ink sprays (Heidi Swapp, Studio Calico), border punch (EK Success), sewing machine & thread.
Be sure to visit Sarah's blog in the coming weeks.  She's challenged herself to make 30 Christmas cards and has already made a great start!

November Kits

Hey Folks!  November is already almost half done and I just realized that I hadn't posted the kits for the month on the blog!  We've been busy here at the store with our Christmas Card Class and lots of new product arriving on a regular basis so the ol' blog has been just a tad neglected.
But finally, here are the November kits ...
"A Colourful Life" is a much brighter kit that I've done in awhile.  November ends up being so cold and dreary that I figured we needed some cheerful colours to perk us up.  The papers and embellishments are a combination of Pebbles "Seen & Noted", American Crafts "Soho Garden" and Glitz "Cashmere".  So fun.
"On My Mind" is definitely the softer side of the two this month with colours that will mix well with some of the past kits.  Dear Lizzy "Fifth & Frolic" and Heidi Swapp "Vintage Chic" make up the bulk of this kit.
Visit the website for a list of the complete contents and to find some inspiration in this month's gallery.

"Lego & Pirates"

Hey all!  Is everyone ready for the weekend?  I've been off a day all week.
Having the kids home on a Monday completely messes me up for the whole week.
We've been busy at the store for the past few days with our October card class and have had a wonderful time with our ladies.  We have such a great group that comes out on a regular basis and seem to be able to add a new face or two with each class.
But it does keep me super busy with no time to create with the October kits.
Hopefully tomorrow ;)
This is one of Sarah's layouts done with "Crisp Fall Air".
Super cute and I love how Sarah was able to incorporate the Amy Tangerine die cut pieces into her title.  Titles with different fonts and mediums are always so much more interesting :)
I should have some new goodies arriving today.
I'm open until 8pm tonight ... stop by the store if you have a few minutes to spare:)
Have a great weekend!

October Kits

Here we are ... October 1st, 2012.  Two years ago today, I opened the doors to Up The Street's storefront.  I've met some wonderful people and learned a lot about running a small retail business.
But one of my favorite things about the business, is still putting together and working with the monthly kits.  I've been extremely fortunate to have wonderful women designing with my kits month after month, and today is a little bittersweet in that area.  Although I absolutely adore this month's kits (and what I've already seen from Sarah is fantastic), I'm sorry to tell you all that you won't see any designs this month from Lesley.  Lesley has started back to work full time, while still running her lovely scrapbook retreat, serving on several manufacture design teams (did you see her news about guest designing for Faber-Castell?) and raising a family.  I'm hoping that she might join us occasionally in the future, but for right now she has had to step back from designing for Up The Street.  So instead of "so long", we'll say "see you soon Lesley" and best of luck with everything over the next little while :)
On to the kits ...
"A Walk in the Park" features a few new lines that I couldn't wait to work with ... October Afternoon "Woodland Park" and Echo Park "For The Record 2".
Lots of blues and greens ... perfect for those summer photos just waiting to be scrapped.
Jenni Bowlin tags, Prima Resist Canvas Shapes, Prima flowers ...
May Arts trim and a few gold leaf sequins to include a taste of fall :)
The second side this month has more of an autumn vibe to it.
"Crisp Fall Air" contains papers and embellishments from Studio Calico "Elementary" and American Crafts "Ready Set Go".
I love that I can still get my Sassafras fix through Studio Calico :)
Lot of "bits" in this month's kit ... Ready Set Go die cuts, Studio Calico Wood Veneer Cameras, Want 2 Scrap rhinestones, Bazzill die cut cards and envelopes and some more May Arts trim.  Oh ... and mistable Thickers.
Both are extremely easy to work with and make for some fast layouts.  Get yours on the website or by reserving them at the store :)

September Cards

Cards take me a long time.  I don't know why.  They just do.  I'm so glad that Lesley and Sarah create such beautiful cards.  It takes the pressure off of me ;)
Enjoy!

September Kits ...

... only a touch late ;)
So I've been working away on the October kits, when it occurs to me that I've not posted the September kits here yet.  No great excuse ... I'm just terrible.
Here we go ...
The first side, "Sweet Sunshine", is crazy bright and colourful and absolutely girlie.  MME has once again put out a beautiful line featuring intense pinks and yellows.
A real mix of manufactures with American Crafts printed vellum, Best Creations glitter paper, a few Bazzill Antique papers, a Pink Paislee Mistable and a gorgeous, distressed Fabscraps patterned paper.
The embellishments are terribly feminine.  I just couldn't help myself and had to go all the way this month with the pretty bits :)
I've got just one of these kits left, and am convinced they've been selling because of the wonderful inspiration from Sarah and Lesley in the Gallery.
The second side is as different as different can be ... a much more masculine feel.
"Clipped" features  Basic Grey Clippings and MME Kraft Funday.
Deep, rich colours with wonderful neutral bases.
Every few kits, I get the itch to include one of Unity Stamps fantastic little Itty Bitties and this month was the month.  A cute "Note to Self" stamp that can be used equally well on both layouts and cards.  A few other treats to mention this month ... a wee Moleskine notebook and one of my favorite journaling pens.  Pop them in your tote and jot down ideas or sketches as you're out and about.

Visit the website for a list of the complete kit contents.

July Kits

Hey all!  Another muggy day headed our way here in Southwestern Ontario.  We had a little bit of rain yesterday, but could really stand a good dunking any time now.  As always, you will find me hunkered down somewhere cool ... I'm definately not an "enjoythehotweather" gal.
I posted the July kits to the website yesterday and will be posting a sweet little mini album kit once I've received the last bits.
I realize that I'm the one who puts the kits together and that this should be a given, but I LOVE the kits this month!  I will be using every last bit of the papers and embellishments, adding bits left from other months and will have a few new items to use on future projects in the way of spray and glitter.
The first kit, "Workin' for the Weekend" (Loverboy, anyone?) is definately representative of my favorite colours right now ... teals, browns, krafts, creams, yellows.  Items from previous kits blend seamlessly with this kit to give you endless embellishment choices.
Papers from Studio Calico "Heyday", October Afternoon "9 to 5", Jillibean Soup "Macho Nacho", Crate Paper "Storyteller" ...
Beautiful specialty papers ... more Heidi Swapp Color Magic, a Fancy Pants Flocked Transparency and one of the Prima Stitched Mulberry papers (seen below) ...
An October Afternoon alphabet and a Jenni Bowlin alphabet stencil paper.  This sticker book from Amy Tangerine's Sketchbook line is FULL of images that can be used on so many projects.  Rounding out the kit is some May Arts twine, Studio Calico Mister Huey and some Maya Road beads ...
... and some little Melissa Frances kraft envelopes ...
The second kit "Hit the Beach" is filled with vibrant colour ...
Echo Park "Paradise Beach", Kaisercraft "Great Southernland" and some Bazzill Antique Dictionary make up the pattered papers.  Another Fancy Pants Flocked Transparency, Heidi Swapp Color Magic and a sheet of vellum just for fun ...
Prima flowers, Elle's Studio tags, American Crafts WOW glitter and Ranger Glossy Accents ...
WRMK Washi Tape and another DIY Thicker set.  Now that I've figured the DIY Thickers out, they are quickly becoming my favorite alphas ...
There is a bit in the Gallery already, but much more to come.  I've got a bunch of beach photos that will absolutely be done using these kits :)

Sarah's June Projects

How's everyone on this hot, humid day?  I thought I'd finally get around to sharing some of the June projects, beginning with Sarah's (working with the "Take A Note" kit) ...
I think what always stands out in any of Sarah's layouts, is the white space and the embellishment clustering.  She has a knack for being able to include a variety of bright patterned papers and embellishments in such a way that your eye is immediately drawn to the photo and then wanders around to look at all of the wonderful little details.
Love, love, love the mottled effect on the Color Magic letter stickers.  These things are so much fun.
Again, although there is no actual "white" on this layout, the balance between the softer hues with the few bright pops of colour is perfect.
I love how she broke apart the Kaisercraft wood branch into many smaller accents and mixes them with the stars.  By the way ... you can thank Sarah for the stars in this kit.  She was the one swooning over them before I decided what would go in the kit :)
Sometimes using a particular shape over and over can be overwhelming, but it's not until you really start looking that you realize there are several different "star" representations here ... the mini wood veneer stars (of course), but also a few different sizes punched for different patterned papers.  Very subtle, but again, creates a layout with an abundance of detail ... not clutter.
Great little title comprised of a few alphabet stickers, die cut numbers and a stamped image.  I love mix-y match-y titles.
I have two of these kits left in the store.  It mixes wonderfully with last month's "The Places We Will Go" kit.
Looking ahead to the next few kits, I'm planning on a July 15th release and then not again until September 1st.  I'm really excited for July's kits.  We'll still have the regular two-sided main kit, but there will also be a sweet little mini album project kit bursting with colour.  Lots of great stuff :)
If you're local, just a quick note that the store will be closed tomorrow (Thursday, June 21st) so that I can go along on a school field trip.  I'll be open again, regular hours, on Friday (noon until 8pm) but closing a touch early on Saturday afternoon (2pm).  Strathroy is holding its annual Turkeyfest this weekend, so while Front Street will be closed most of Friday and part of Saturday, there is still parking in back of the store.  Feel free to call if you have any specific questions ... (519) 245-7590.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day :)  If you're finding it hard to stay cool, I happen to know a local scrapbook store where the air will be on and there are oodles of fun things to look at ;)
